About Committee

"The Committee for Protection of Human Rights" is the first nongovernmental social organization to be registered with the Tatarstan Ministry of Justice.

The organization's purpose is to investigate breaches in the humanrights, of individuals and groups, which are currently guaranteed under existing law. The committee investigates human rights violations,researches current sociological issues pertaining to human rights,supports the rights of free speech in journalism, and through education,proclaims the collective rights of individuals and groups in theRepublic of Tatarstan.

The aims and tasks of the committee are to promulgate anunderstanding of current human rights guaranteed and written into law, and to analyze questions of rights legality in accordance with theHelsinki Accord and other international agreements. Noted violations of human rights are immediately brought to the attention of state leaders, legislators, nongovernmental establishments, interested organizations, and the general public at large, both inside and outside of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Furthermore, the general public's constructive participation is openlysolicited to address and emend any legislation that pertains to the abrogation of these human rights. Through active monitoring, human rights protection, is encouraged in all states, public courts and organizational establishments according to the standards of international law and legislation currently in force.

In order to achieve these objectives, the Committee's rank andfile collects, records, and publishes information pertaining to noted breaches of human rights, and it encourages the development of an active civil consciousness.
